Ross Perot gave me a ride to my executive interview at EDS

It was early meeting and I took a taxi to the EDS headquarters on Forest Lane in Dallas.  I nor my taxi had ever been to the headquarters before.  After a bit of confuse with the driver of the taxi, I decided to get out of the taxi at the main entrance gate and walk the rest of the way to the building where my executive interview was scheduled.  Several people were on their way to work.  One stopped and offered me a ride.  I thanked them, but said that didn’t mind walking and they went on.  A second car stopped and again offered me a ride.  Again, I say I was fine and they went on.  Finally, a third car stopped.  I said to myself, if these people are so determined to give me a ride, I guess I will accept.  I got in the car and the gentleman introduced himself as Ross Perot.  I recognized him immediately having done research on the company.  I told him that I was there for an executive interview and he asked me a lot of questions of me.  What school had I attended and what type of computer hardware for which I had experience.  He was very nice to me.  We continued on up to the headquarters and parked in Ross’ official, unofficial parking space.  We got into the elevator as people were greeting Ross.  Yes, everybody called him Ross, not Mr. Perot.  I got off on the fourth floor and Ross directed me to talk to the receptionist and that she would help me.

I had my executive interview with Glenn Brown and he gave me an offer which I accepted.  Then I shared with Mr. Brown, that I was happy to be joining EDS, but that hadn’t been the highlight of the day, that my ride with Ross Perot had made my day.  I was with EDS for the next 21 years.
