It was a Saturday and I was meeting a colleague of mine at the EDS data center on Forest Ave in Dallas. I arrived early and not seeing my colleague’s car, I decided to sit on the steps behind the headquarters that led up to the golf clubhouse. While sitting there, I noticed two Dallas police cars enter the EDS grounds. This was unusual, because EDS security handled most things within the headquarters itself. One police car went around the front of the headquarters and the other car headed up to the parking lot behind the headquarters. To my surprise, they both stopped on an angle at the bottom of the stairs on which I was sitting. One of the officers slowing got out of his car, shotgun in hand, and pointed the gun at me and asked me to put my hands up. Of course, I compiled. The officer asked me what I was doing there and I told him that I was waiting for my colleague. Once they realized that I was not a thread, I asked what was going on. They informed me that a person matching my description had jumped the fence on Hillcrest, a road on the backside of the headquarters, and was reported to have a gun. To say the least, I decided that it would be best for me to wait for my colleague inside the data center.
I can honestly say that I never lost my cool, even though a gun was pointed straight at me.
